Robert Lewandowski willing to take pay cut to stay at Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona past the end of the season is unclear as his current contract is due to expire in the summer.

The veteran striker has said recently he’s not made a decision on what to do next, but he is believed to have attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Sports journalist Dominik Piechota has been asked about the striker’s situation and says he wants to continue at Barcelona past the end of the season.

“We believe it could be Lewandowski’s last season. Milan, Arabia… But his desire is to stay at Barcelona. Even with a big pay cut,” he told Jijantes.

“Robert wants to prove he can be in a substitute role. He and his family are very happy here.”

Lewandowski has accepted a reduced role at Barcelona this season but has still scored four times in eight La Liga appearances for Hansi Flick’s side.

Whether Barca would be willing to offer a new contract remains to be seen and will depend on how he performs for the rest of the campaign.

Any decision on Lewandowski may also be influenced by whether the club bring in a replacement up front which may be difficult due to their ongoing financial struggles.
