Barcelona lose Jules Kounde to injury in Villarreal win

Barcelona saw Jules Kounde go off with an injury on Sunday in the latter stages of their La Liga win over Villarreal.

The Frenchman went down after taking a knock and couldn’t continue. He was replaced by Marc Casado with just over 10 minutes left to play.

Sunday’s match is Barcelona’s last before the winter break, giving Kounde time to recover which is good news for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants certainly won’t want to lose their France international to injury, particularly with Andreas Christensen now sidelined with a serious knee injury and Ronald Araujo currently taking time away from the club.

Casado does seem to be emerging as a possible option at right-back, after playing in that position in the Copa del Rey win over Guadalara, while Eric Garcia has also been used in that position this season.

Barcelona are due to return to action in 2026 against Espanyol in La Liga on January 3rd. Hansi Flick’s side then jet out to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup.
