Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has been quizzed on the clash between Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal in El Clasico and insists there is no problem between the two players.
Yamal seemed to rile up Madrid with some comments ahead of the match which led Carvajal to confront the 18-year-old at the end of the game.
De la Fuente was asked about the two players on an appearance on the José Ramón de la Morena podcast and tried his best to play down the incident.
“There has never been any incident, no strange behavior from anyone,” he said.
“Because of a school fight? No, there is no school fight. Really, there is no fight. In addition, the feeling within the group is of family, of union. The common good is prioritized over the individual, and that says a lot about this group of players.”
The Spain boss was also asked if he needed to talk to Yamal about what happened and effectively said he’d leave the matter up to the clubs to work out.
“I think that those who have to speak are those responsible for their clubs,” he added.
“I have spoken a lot with Lamine, as well as with Dani Carvajal and with all the members of the team.”
De la Fuente also pointed out the history the two players share with the national team, choosing to remember a great moment from Euro 2024.
“I’m left with the image of the European Championship: Lamine’s cross and Carvajal’s shot, the hug they gave each other, the faces… That’s what happens in the national team. I am totally convinced that the only interest here is the general interest,” he said.
The Spain boss is due to name his latest squad this week for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkiye.
Carvajal won’t be part of the squad due to injury, but it’s expected Yamal will be called up despite his current pubalgia issues.
