Time for a new penalty taker? Robert Lewandowski makes unwanted history at Barcelona with Atletico miss

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski missd his second penalty of the season on Tuesday against Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou.

Lewandowski had the chance to put his team 2-1 up in the first half after Dani Olmo had been fouled. The Poland international stepped up but managed to send his effort flying high over the bar.

The miss puts Lewandowski into the history books with an unwanted record. The striker is now the first Barcelona player to miss two penalties in the same season in the entire history of La Liga, according to MisterChip.

Lewandowski also missed against Sevilla in the 4-1 defeat back in October and admitted afterwards it “hurts a bit” after passing up the chance to make it 2-2 in the game.

The question now is whether Lewandowski will continue as Barcelona’s first choice penalty-taker or whether Raphinha or Lamine Yamal may be handed the job instead of the veteran.
