Barcelona ‘would prefer’ Spain not to call up Lamine Yamal for World Cup qualifiers

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is set to name his latest squad on Friday for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkiye.

There will be plenty of focus as usual on his selection and particularly whether he decides to call up Lamine Yamal who is still suffering some discomfort caused by pubalgia.

Barcelona “would prefer” it if Spain did not call up Yamal this summer as they want him to continue to follow a recovery plan they have put in place, according to El Desmarque.

The Catalans have designed “a series of physiotherapy exercises” to try and help combat the problem and also do not want him playing full games at the moment.

Yamal has played 90 minutes in five of his nine appearances for Hansi Flick’s side so far this season, with the Barcelona manager admitting he needs to learn how to manage the injury.

The teenager is expected to feature again on Wednesday against Club Brugge in the Champions League, while Barca will have to wait and see if Spain include him in their latest squad.
