Deco says Barcelona ‘don’t need’ to recruit in January transfer window

Barcelona sporting director Deco has once again effectively ruled out signing players in the January transfer window.

There’s been talk of Barca potentially signing a defender but Deco says that he doesn’t think Hansi Flick’s squad neeeds reinforcements.

“Renewals were the priority. Consolidating the team for the coming years. Injuries are a factor, but we’ve been overcoming them. It’s very difficult for the winter transfer window to work well,” he told Què T’hi Jugues.

“We’re not in a bad position to make decisions in January. I don’t think it’s necessary to bring anyone in. Nor do I think anyone needs to leave.”

The Catalans also continue to be linked with strikers, but Deco says no decisions have been made about attacking players.

“I understand the speculation. There will always be some at Barcelona. But now is not the time to talk about signings,” he added.

“We shouldn’t be obsessed with the center forward. Lewandowski has given us a lot and can still give us more. We haven’t discussed a possible contract renewal.

“[Rashford] It’s not decided yet. It’s not the right time to address this. We’re happy with him; he’s giving us a lot. We have time to decide.”
