‘I haven’t played as a striker yet! – Eric Garcia talks playing different positions for Barcelona

Eric Garcia has been talking about life at Barcelona after being asked to play a variety of positions this season under manager Hansi Flick.

The versatile star has shone at right-back, center-back and in midfield so far this season and says he feels comfortable in all the roles he has been asked to play.

“I haven’t played as a striker yet!” he joked. “I’ve always been a center back. I feel very comfortable at full-back. This year I’m playing as a defensive midfielder. Little by little I’m adapting to wherever the manager asks me to play.”

Garcia also spoke about reports he’s now seen as one of the captains in the Barcelona dressing room after his commanding performances this season.

“I’ve always been a captain behind the scenes; I like to help my teammates when they’re going through a tough time, both on and off the pitch,” he added.

“The coaches have always trusted me in this regard. It’s something that comes naturally. It’s not a goal, it’s something that comes naturally. Setting it as a goal wouldn’t be a good idea.”

Eric was speaking after officially putting pen to paper on a new deal. He’s now contracted to the club until 2031, a handsome reward for his good form.
